A Rule To Live By

Fighting the Good Fight

Recently, while visiting a friend’s Facebook site, I found something I took to heart. Here it is, in its entirety and with his permission: written by Keith Provance

“I remember when Ryan was a little guy, I think about 4 years old. He wanted a bunk bed. So we bought a bunk bed one Saturday morning. He helped me put it together and he could hardly wait to go to bed that night. He kept saying all day, “I can’t wait to sleep in my new bunk bed, I am going to sleep on the top bunk.” Once it got dark he kept asking, “Is it bed time yet?” Finally he insisted he go to bed even though it was about an hour before his bed time. He got his pajamas on, we said our prayers then he ran over to his bunk bed. He climbed quickly about half way up the ladder then he froze. I waited a few seconds to see what was the matter, then I said, “Buddy, everything ok?” He said “Poppa, would it be okay if I slept on the bottom bunk tonight?” He said, “I am kinda afraid I might fall out.” I said, “Sure pal. The whole bed is yours. You can sleep on the bottom until you get a little older. Then you can try the top out.” He said, “OK, thanks!” He waited a few more seconds and seemed to slip away into deep thought. Then all of a sudden he scurried up the ladder, jumped in the bed and pulled the cover up real tight under his chin.
I said, “Buddy, I thought you were afraid”. He said, “Oh, I am Poppa , but I am more excited than afraid!”
Many times in my life when faced with the chance to do something really exciting but faced with fear or hesitancy, I am glad that most of the time…not all the time but most of the time…I climbed up that ladder and jumped in the bed.
Losing your job after 31 years and starting over at 52 is a little scary, I must admit. But I must also confess that I am more excited than afraid. Excited to see what God has in store. Excited to see what new adventure of faith awaits us.
If you are frozen on a ladder in your life right now, get up that ladder and jump in bed. I encourage you to go for it. Live your life more excited than afraid. Courage is not the absence of fear it is the conquest of it.
God is a big God and He has awesome wonderful plans for you. No matter how many times you have failed, no matter how old you are, no matter what others say….even if you fail , so what! At least you failed trying. Get up and go at it again!
Live your life more excited than afraid!”

A big thank you to Keith! By starting this blog, I just ‘climbed up the ladder and jumped in bed’, and now I’m eager to see what comes next!
