“God and Dog by Wendy Francisco”
Is it possible for a recording artist and songwriter to
write a song about God and Dog, animate it herself, put it on YouTube and have over one million hits in 40 days…almost three million hits now?
How about is it possible for that recording artist to have the millions of hits, a literary agent and a publisher’s bidding war over her first children’s book?
Let me introduce you to the book, God and Dog by Wendy Francisco. The YouTube video is embedded for your enjoyment, please watch it and then read on about Wendy.
You can see that the message is simple yet so profound. Wendy’s music and writings center around the belief that there is a loving God Who created the universe. She struggles with modern religion which limits people and God. Wendy truly knows that God Himself is real and loves people. Her heart’s desire in her ministry is to ” tell people on this planet they are loved by an eternal God”.
The book, God and Dog, speaks to that very issue. Wendy wants the listener to understand God and Dog by explaining each verse in the song on her site. This very poignant portion of the song especially stands out…………….
“Both love me no matter what, Divine God and canine mutt.”
Wendy speaks about the lyric,
“We know how loving our dogs are. Their relationship to us is not based on a scorecard. Well many people think that God tallies our mistakes like an accountant who tracks every penny. But, if this were true then it would be impossible to have an authentic friendship with God. We would all either be intolerably proud, or we’d be dysfunctionally humiliated. This is why dead religion is made of intolerably proud people telling dysfunctionally humiliated people what to do”.
Wendy has a loving and faithful dog, Caspian. Looking at her dog one day she knew that Caspian would abide with her 24/7 if she would let him. While the idea was growing in her, she considered God wants to abide with her 24/7 also and the song began to take wing.
When mentioning that recently the buzz online is some authors ‘toot their own horns’ too often, Wendy’s refreshing response was she looks at it on the positive side. “You are passionate about the message, now you market so people can read your message.”
Wendy has a limited number of signed copies in her GoD and DoG Store where you can also find the Lyrics and Chords for the God and Dog music.
The next posting on this blog will cover more of Wendy Francisco’s plugged-in life with God, her husband Don Francisco, daughter Annie and her gorgeous group of animals.
Love to hear your thoughts….leave them for Wendy and myself here!
I love the response to marketing, I think few people see it like that!
Me too, Retha. I see so many people pointing their fingers at the ‘egomaniac authors’ for marketing their book (s). Granted there are real ‘Me-Me-Authors’ out there, yet the publishing world is now requiring authors to market their own books on an Author Platform. I like Wendy’s take on it!
This is so incredibly sweet and clever (and I love Wendy’s voice)! As a dog owner, I can totally appreciate the song’s message. I just took a look at the chords and lyrics and will try playing it on the guitar for my sons. 🙂
P.S. Thank you for sharing, Donna!
You’re so very welcome, Rachel. Wendy was great to interview…so personable and not at all self-absorbed. She was truly delightful!
Rachel, your talents keep on amazing me!
