Library Card Sign Up Month!

Back to School Blog Tour 2010

You are visiting my blog during the Back to School Blog Tour.  Thanks to our sponsors, Living My MoMent and The Work At Home Woman for putting this all together.  There are giveaways you’ll be interested in, just go to one of the above links to see what and how you can win.  My blog has one of the giveaways which is a set of all four of my children’s books

September is Library Card Sign Up Month

I live in the unincorporated county, so I’m charged yearly for a library card. If you’re in the library’s ‘town limits’ and don’t have a card, you’re missing out on a tremendous deal! For you, a Library Card is FREE. Crafting people are making pretend library cards, their own books or bookmarks…anything to influence their children to love the written word.

How Can You Celebrate Too?  Use My Free Downloads!

Check out the free coloring pages on my site with an offer on the same page of an illustrated page from a book to use as a book cover for your coloring books.Have them participate by coloring the book pages, but even better, insert blank pages into the book between some on the pages. Ask the child to make up a story that goes with the coloring pages. Help them write it down or let them write on the pages. Sometimes all they need is a ‘suggestion’ like the coloring pages, to be able to come up with a complete story on their own. Put a photo of them on the back page, like an author, and ask them what they would want people to know about themselves. Get a three ring binder with a clear pocket insert on the cover to hold my offer of an illustration for the front of the book. You can find that offer on the coloring book pages on my blog.

Go Get Your Child’s First Library Card

Since it’s Library Card Month, take them to the library to get their first card and check out some books the same day. Show them how the book has been put together and give them the binder with the blank and coloring pages. Take them through the concept of the

  • Title page
  • the Copyright page (explain it)
  • the Story with Illustrations (across from each other), and the last page that
  • Introduces the Author

All of this because of a library card! Hooray for libraries!

Leave your comments too about your first library card!

    Hi Donna,

Thanks for being part of the Back-to-School Blog Tour! I am definitely going to check out your coloring pages, that is right up my daughter's alley!

I'll have to stop by our local library too, it will seem like shopping to my daughter but without all of the cost!

Many thanks to you, Holly and Abbey for having this blog tour. Hmmmm…how much do you charge for a 'book(s) tour'?
The library is like shopping, isn't it!
If she has any favorite books, try scanning the illustrations and then leaving story side of the pages blank so she can dictate or write her own story.
Maybe you can even get a head shot of her and paste it over one of the characters so she can be personally involved 'inside' the story.
    Thanks for stopping by!!

    **Nicole**,

How are your kids? I've been checking in on you and life's been rough lately with your emergency room visits!

When Bob's home and you can leave the little guy with him, the library will seem like a slice of heaven for you and Amber.

At my local library, children have to be 5 to have their own card (my eldest has one and my youngest will next year!) but I have been taking both of my girls since they were babies! They both love the library as much as I do and I am very glad for that!
