Birth of a First Book!
Every author has a unique story behind each book they’ve written.
You would be surprised how they come upon the whole basis of their books. I can’t speak for other authors, so let me explain to you how it came about.
How did I come up with my first children’s book? I had been teaching Children’s Church and wanted to help the children understand how important the dreams in your heart are; nobody can take them from you; and there is Someone Who is very interested in your following that dream because He put it there.
In the first book, The Flight of Orville Wright Caterpillar I used the idea of caterpillar to butterfly which has always been a theme that reflects Christianity on many different levels.
There was one phrase that stuck in me for quite awhile and the whole book was written around those words…”Do you want to ride the high places of the earth?” I was listening to an evangelist on tape and those words wrote most of the story inside me first. I mulled over them quite awhile and then put it down in book form to read to the children at church.
Since that time, there have been people that preached out of the book to adults, taken it to the markets in Jerusalem to read to little children they know, and the children who have grown up with Orville are adults and are wanting the book for their children.

I LOVE Orville. I found the book in a bookstore when I first became a Christian over 25 years ago. As I stood there reading his story, I so related to it that I began to weep. I WANTED To "fly in HIGH Places" From that day until now, Orville became my partner. I have taken his story to many places in the world and taught from many different views of his story. Thanks Donna, for my friend and encourager, Orville!!

Meanwhile, download the coloring pages with the book's character, Orville, on them for your children. Let them make a book out of their pages. Then send me a photo of them with their coloring pages!

MY MOM GAVE ME THIS BOOK WHEN I WAS TOO YOUNG TO READ. WE READ IT EVERY NIGHT AND I KEPT IT TILL I HAD TO MOVE AT 16, LEAVING IT BEHIND =(. I THOUGHT ABOUT THE BOOK TOO MANY TIMES TO COUNT THROUGHOUT MY TEENAGE YEARS, AND EARLY 20'S! LAST YEAR I TOLD MY MOM ABOUT THE TIMES I WOULD THINK ABOUT ORVILLE AND HOW THE STORY REMINDED ME TO KEEP DREAMING (GOD'S DREAM!) DURING THE DIFFICULT TIMES – YOU KNOW, THE DREAM GOD HAS PUT IN EACH ONE OF US TO BE WHAT HE HAS PLANNED US TO BE. I CAN'T WAIT TO GET MY HANDS BACK ON THIS BOOK!!
