Is Stashing Ideas onto Pinterest Boards Like Stashing Bible Knowledge?

Are you a fan of Pinterest?  I’ve been pinning now for about a year and ‘stashing’ away ideas on Pinterest boards.  For those of you who have not tried Pinterest, a simple picture of pinning  is starting boards of ideas on your own Pinterest site.  People with similar interests can search for keywords that will bring them to your boards.  They can repin what they see on your boards, onto their own boards.  The huge amount of knowledge that can help you is phenomenol.  Then I began noticing  how stashing ideas onto Pinterest boards is like stashing bible knowledge.

Does Pinning Help You Remember?

Each time I see what others have pinned from my boards, I’m shocked at how much I’ve forgotten what I previously pinned.  Mind you, there’s so many ideas that have been pinned, remembering them all would be astonishing!  I put a lot of attention to one board in particular, Children’s Ministry Ideas.  There are hundreds of people combing that board for pins they can use in Sunday School and Children’s Church.  Just the same, you’d think after pinning ideas there and seeing others re-pinning them,  I could remember them….or at the very least have an inkling of a memory about them.

Is Stashing Ideas onto Pinterest Like Stashing Bible Knowledge?

Have you noticed that stashing ideas onto Pinterest Boards is  like reading the Word of God, or listening to a teaching about scripture?  It has occurred to me that it’s close to the same principle of James  1:22-25

“But be doers of the Word (obey the message), and not merely listeners to it, betraying yourselves (into deception by reasoning contrary to the Truth).  23 For if anyone only listens to the Word without obeying it and being a doer of it, he is like a man who looks carefully at his (own) natural face in a mirror;  24 For he thoughtfully observes himself, and then goes off and promptly forgets what he was like.   25 But he who looks carefully into the faultless law, the (law) of liberty, and is faithful to it and perseveres in looking into it, being not a heedless listener who forgets but an active doer (who obeys), he shall be blessed in his doing (his life of obedience).”  Amplified version

If you think I’m comparing ‘apples’ to oranges’ by comparing a portion of Pinterest to James 1:22-25, let me explain.  Christians are told to read the Word and listen to it intently.  Some read it and then forget about what they read. What the Word is saying is, yes, read and then act on what you’ve read.  For example, when the Word says to love with the God kind of love, that’s what you do.

Don't Hug a Grudge by Donna Perugini

Stashing knowledge of the Word of God will not help you unless you’re a ‘doer of the Word’.

There is no justification for getting even or not forgiving.  I Corinthians 13:4-8 gives a summary of the God kind of love. When the situation arises to forgive, you forgive like God forgives..freely and without need of getting even.  This is a remedy that we apply. If you are not ‘a doer of the Word’ (a performer of the Word), then you deceive yourself.  When someone is self deceived, they rarely know they are and cannot help themselves out of their deception.  In short, do what you know to do and ‘you are blessed and shall be blessed in all your ways.’

Stashing onto Pinterest Boards or Stashing Bible Knowledge Only is a Fail

So where do we ‘fail’ in Pinterest or the Word of God?  Simplistically stated, we fail by gathering all the knowledge that we can and then not acting on it.  Acting on Pinterest  would be  doing the project and more than once.  Acting on the Word of God would be when the moment comes to forgive someone…put away the hurt feelings and vengeful anger…and keep reminding ourselves that we have forgiven when emotions rise up over time.  When you act on a Pinterest pin idea, you have a better chance of remembering it.  It can begin to become a part of your thoughts and actions for the future.  The Holy Spirit helps the Christian to remember what they’ve read and they act by ‘doing the Word of God’ causing a life-changing event! The Word of God becomes alive within you when it is not just mere intense knowledge of the bible and it is acted upon by choice.

Do the Word of God or Deceive Yourself

As for Pinterest, it will eventually go by the wayside of increasing knowledge, but the Word of God is eternal. We have a free will that can choose to do the Word of God we know to do or deceive ourselves by having knowledge without action.  The bible is not just a ‘good’ book, a ‘holy’ book or a coffee table book. It’s for the Christian’s personal changing of old thought patterns by acting on what the bible tells us is true. That with the Holy Spirit within and ‘we will be blessed in all our ways’.

Have you forgotten those great ideas you’ve pinned?  What do you think about acting on  the Word of God versus just knowing about it? Leave your comments!
