“Resolutions or Lifestyle…Decisons, Decisions”

Closing in on the New Year

At least 50% or more of bloggers

are talking about New Year’s Resolutions in their blog postings now.

Resolutions

Resolutions to me are like dieting…you start out with high hopes, ending up with more weight in the long run. Let me say it another way. Why not just have a lifestyle change that has no pressure, just results. As soon as I think about losing weight I’m already focusing on the ‘problem’. When I start a lifestyle change, it’s for keeps. I don’t have an end game, just a ‘lifestyle’.

Lifestyle Changes?

Is it all semantics…word play…mind games? Lifestyle to me includes my whole life, not just parts of it. I’m into change for spirit, soul and body.  All of me is included; nothing is excluded.

Real Me Changes

My focus is a fulfilling spiritual life that doesn’t answer to body or food obsessions. My thought life doesn’t own me, but is owned by the stronger part of me…my spiritual life. In other words, there is Someone greater than me and anything about me. When I have a relationship with that Greater Someone, God, then I’m stronger. I, the ‘real me’, tells my mind, will, emotions and body what to do, not the other way around.

Resolutions or Leaning…Decisions-Decisions

When everyone is making resolutions, I’ll be leaning toward my God. He’ll direct my paths and lead me…if I make Him my ‘resolution’ … if I make Him the one I give my ‘self’ to…..I’m just sayin!

Do you agree or disagree? Have you had lifestyle changes? Love to hear about it….

You’re totally right, Donna. So many resolutions are doomed to failure because of the pressure we put on ourselves. That’s why I like the 101 Things in 1001 Days. It gives me almost 3 years to complete my goals vs. the typical 12 months.
Focusing on God and not on ourselves or our problems is the key to changing our lifestyles and completing our goals.
Have a happy New Year 🙂

      Jenn,
Sometimes it’s even the ‘pressure we let others put on us’. I’ve never come across the 101 in 1001. Is it something you read?
      Love your focus!

Life changes when I allow God to do the changes.

      Mary,
“….when I allow God to do the changes”. Those are mighty powerful words!

Thanks for leaving your thoughtful comment!

I agree…lifestyle changes are the way to go. I do like to set goals, but I am prayerful about those…and they don’t really have an “end” as if to say, “ok, I’ve accomplished that- now back to whatever I was doing before” we are to “forget those things which are behind and reach forward to those things which are ahead” (Phil. 3:13). I think it’s important to reflect and pray “God, how do I need to improve this year, what is your vision for me?”

      Becky,
I like your thoughts on asking God what is His vision for me? Too often we leap ahead of God with our plans.

Donna you are so right; until we make a decision to turn it over to God we are just making senseless noise. We will still try to take the controls back from Him, it’s our nature…but He loves us enough to let us drive for a while to teach us we cannot do it alone. He sent His son to prove that love.

    Kipp,
Thank you for the very well thought out comment for my site. I like your point on ‘senseless noise’.
Your metaphor for driving brought thoughts of driving, following our own directions, getting lost on the way. Did I bring up running out of gas? Done them all!
I’m so glad He’s always there, loving and waiting.
