An Umpire That Never Made a Wrong Call

Holy Spirit as the umpire in your lifeYou just had a posting from me about the umpires that make errors (according to the crowd). Sometimes the crowd has called for new umpires or the umpires demise.  There is one umpire that has never  made the wrong call.

Who’s Leading You?

I taught at our church on Sunday about being led by the Holy Spirit.  At the last supper, Jesus told His followers about someone he was sending in his place….someone who would take up residence within them.  Jesus said it was ‘advantageous’ for them that he should go and the Comforter would be sent to be with and live in them.

That same Holy Spirit comes to live in us when we are first born again.  Being ‘led’ by the Holy Spirit is like him extending a hand towards us…and we must take it to be led…our choice.  You get to decide if you want him to tell you of things to come…like situations that you can avoid or take a different tactic when you are in them.  Who wouldn’t want to be prepared like this?  All that’s required of us it to have a ‘relationship’ with someone who loves us deeply…..someone who only has our best interest and wants to help us live the life God planned for us.  Yes, he’s a helper also.  He’s a teacher and an advocate, always standing by us.

Did you know the Holy Spirit is also an umpire?

Colossian 3:15    “And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as an umpire continually) in your hearts (deciding and settling with finality) all questions that arise in your minds, (in that peaceful state) to which as members of Christ’s one body you were also called to live.  And be thankful, appreciative, giving praise to God always.”

It could be said this way:

  • Let the peace of God be the umpire in your life and actions, or
  • Let the peace of God act as referee in your emotions and your decisions, or
  • Let the peace of God ‘call the shots’ in your life.

Have you been letting the Holy Spirit call the shots in your life, deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your mind?

Do you think it’s possible to “hear His (Jesus’) Voice and a stranger’s you will not  follow?”  Love to read your comments…leave them and get a response!

I really do make this my aim! Usually my flesh screams out first (all manner of protesting and whatnot) but God is patient with me and eventually I hear His voice! I would love to get to the place where I’m positioned to hear His voice first! 🙂
